Day 22 Warwick Castle

A beautiful day to visit a castle. Warwick castle has been around in parts since 914 and for over 200 years was owned by the Greville family. Attacked in 1264, besieged in 1642 and damage by fire in 1871, the Castle has nevertheless survived the ever-changing fortunes of history. Warwick Castle remained under the stewardship of the Earls of Warwick and later the Greville Family as a private home until 1978. The property was then taken over by The Tussauds Group, which later became Merlin Entertainments Group in 2007 and remains under their guardianship today. It is commercialised, as opposed to other castles I have been to that are owned by the National Trust. There has been a lot of controversy about whether is it selling English history out but seeing the numbers there today, they are obviously doing something right.
What a beautiful castle it is. I climbed up one of the turrets called Guys Tower that was built in 1395. A breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside and villages. I will let the photos I took tell the rest of the story.
